OWdle Ability guide

A guide to the tile-by-tile icon reveal: composing a partial icon, and why only the hero counts.

How Ability works

An ability icon hides behind a grid of nine tiles. One tile is uncovered before your first guess, and every wrong guess uncovers another. You have eight attempts to name the hero who owns the ability.

Strategy

  1. 01

Compose the whole from the parts

Tiles reveal piece by piece rather than sharpening from a blur. Track the shape, the silhouette, and any recurring color across the visible tiles and picture the rest.

  2. 02

You are naming the hero, not the ability

You never have to name the ability itself, only its owner. If a fragment reads clearly as one hero's kit, commit to the hero even when you cannot name the specific ability.

  3. 03

The first free tile is your anchor

One tile is visible before you spend a guess. Read it hard: a single distinctive color or icon corner is often enough to rule out most of the roster.

Tips

  • Eight attempts, and each miss uncovers exactly one more tile.
  • Icons share a visual grammar by role. A support's icon rarely reads like a damage hero's.
