OWdle Spotlight guide

A guide to the zooming art crop: what a tight crop still tells you, and why one more zoom step beats a coin-flip guess.

How Spotlight works

A small crop of a hero splash or skin appears, and it zooms out a step with each wrong guess. You have five attempts. The pool is wide: base hero portraits plus over a thousand skins, so a familiar color on unfamiliar art is often a skin you have not seen.

Strategy

  1. 01

Name the palette before the hero

Even a tight crop carries a dominant color, a material, or a slice of background. Those place a hero, or a hero's signature skin, faster than trying to identify a specific feature through the zoom.

  2. 02

Spend a miss to buy a zoom step

Five attempts is tight, but when two heroes are both plausible, one more zoom step usually settles it. A deliberate miss that reveals more art beats flipping a coin.

  3. 03

Account for skins, not just base art

Because the pool includes over a thousand skins, a color scheme that does not match a hero's default can still be theirs in a legendary skin. Think in skins when the base read fails.

Tips

  • Five attempts here, the tightest budget of any mode. Guess deliberately.
  • The crop starts on a telling part of the art, not a random square.
